Colorado
History in Context
The 1880 U.S. Census found 612 Chinese living in Colorado ‒ just 0.3 % of the total population at that time.
The First Chinese in Colorado
The first Chinese who were documented to arrive in Colorado settled in Denver in 1870. The U. S. Census for that year recorded 7 Chinese men. It's likely that Chinese miners appeared in other parts of the state prior to that, but at this time there are no reliable records of other Chinese presence.
